WESTERN Bulldogs star Easton Wood has criticised the amount of gambling in the AFL and queried why more is not done to keep it from the eyes of children.
The premiership captain said gambling advertising is “out of control and I think it needs to change’’.
Taking to social media to vent his frustrating during coverage of the AFLW on Friday night, Wood said he ‘’just could not stomach’’ gambling.
“Every year we’re told it’s a sinister and dangerous activity because of the associated risks that come with gambling, all of which are very real’’ he tweeted.

“What I can’t understand is if this is such an issue...why-as an industry do we support the onslaught of gambling advertising you’re now faced with when watching an AFL game.’’
He said the “obvious’’ issue was the impact of gambling on impressionable children “every time they watch us pull on the boots’’.
Wood’s view was backed by the AFL Fans’ Association who described his stance as “brave”.
Among those to support Wood’s stand was former Federal Labor MP Kelvin Thompson.
‘’Very courageous, spot on, Easton,’’ he tweeted in reply to the post.
“Betting adverts banned to protect kids, yet allowed during sports broadcasts.’’
The AFL has been approached for comment.
