The families of the two boys killed in a horror car crash say they are devastated at the deaths of the two teens.
“Both of our families are still in shock and devastated over yesterday’s tragic crash,” they said in a statement released by NSW Police.
“We are continuing to come to terms with the loss of our much-loved son and brother.”
The boys, aged 13 and 14, are believed to have died instantly after they were flung from the back seats of the car when it split in half after it slammed into a power pole along Maxwells Ave in Ashcroft just before 11am on Monday.
“We ask for privacy at this time, and we will not be conducting any media interviews while the police investigation continues.”
The statement was released on Tuesday night after two men who were also in the car, but allegedly ran off after the crash in Ashcroft were arrested.
Police arrested the men, aged 23 and 27, at Wetherill Park Police Station about 12.30pm on Tuesday.
Both were taken to Liverpool Hospital under police guard for assessment and injuries allegedly sustained during the crash.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden said on Monday the car had been travelling well above the 50km/h speed limit before the collision.
CCTV footage taken from a neighbouring property captured the crash and the aftermath.
A man wearing a black hoodie and black shoes was seen clambering out of the wreckage and checking on one of the boys.
A motorcyclist is captured arriving at the site of the wreckage moments after the collision.
The man in a black hoodie returns to the wreckage to help the front-seat passenger out of the vehicle, with both men leaving the scene as local residents and passers-by converged on the site and called emergency services.
A freeze-frame of the footage shows one of the men had sustained a severe injury to his index finger.
A NSW Police spokesperson said “extensive resources” had been deployed on Tuesday to further their inquiries.
No charges have been laid on Tuesday night.
Tributes have been left at the base of a tree at the scene on Tuesday, including flowers, a cross and a toy bear.
