Producers of factually reality TV show Bondi Rescue will be around for “many years to come” despite being off air for 2025.
Reports of a cancellation were sparked this week after star and lifeguard Andrew ‘Reidy’ Reid was interviewed at an event over the weekend.
“Season 18 was widely regarded as the best we’ve ever made and there’s still plenty of important stories to tell about Bondi’s professional lifeguards and the extraordinary work they do,” Michael Cordell, creative director and co-founder of production company CJZ, said in a statement.
“The surf safety messages are vital. Reidy has been off-duty for some time and isn’t privy to the show’s financing. We love Reidy, but he isn’t best placed to be making announcements about Bondi Rescue’s future.”
All 18 seasons have aired on Channel 10, the first premiering in 2006 and going on to win six Logie Awards over the years.
Narrated by Osher Gunsberg, it follows the daily lifesaving rescues on the iconic beach and is broadcast in many countries across the globe.
Cordell said CJZ was currently renegotiating a multi-year option with the Waverley Council to begin shooting a further season.
He also noted Ten still wanted the show and that it would be delivered “as planned”.
“Bondi Rescue had a welcome hiatus last season to give everyone a break, but we fully expect to back on the beach this summer,” he said.
“Last summer also happened to be woeful, so we dodged a bullet.
“We’re all incredibly proud of Bondi Rescue, not only for its popularity but what it says about Australia and the Australian character.
“Our ambition is to keep the show running for many years to come.”
