LABOR leader Bill Shorten will share the spotlight with the “Governator” Arnold Schwarzenegger today as the movie star-turned-climate change campaigner visits Melbourne.

Schwarzenegger, the former Governor of California, is now on a mission to fight childhood obesity with his event, the Arnold Classic, featuring a special kids’ expo aimed at encouraging youngsters to get moving.

Mr Shorten will chat privately with the 69-year-old for Mr Universe to about fighting pollution and taking action on climate change.

“Anyone who’s seen his work knows he’s a straight-shooter determined to save the planet,” Mr Shorten told the Herald Sun.

“California’s economy is the 6th largest in the world — a feat achieved in part because it is an attractive and stable environment for renewable energy investment,”

“Mr Schwarzenegger has dedicated his time in public life to tackling the challenge of climate change. He sticks to his principles, even when the going gets tough.”

Schwarzenegger touched down at Melbourne airport yesterday ahead of the event at the Melbourne Convention Centre this weekend.

Now in its third year, the world’s biggest multi-sport festival attracts crowds of up to 70,000 over the three-day event.

The star of films such as True Lies and Kindergarten Cop is a passionate advocate for renewable energy technology and has clashed publicly with US President Donald Trump on many issues, including against ignoring climate change.

Under his leadership California passed some of the most revolutionary environmental laws in the United States.

“I don’t want to be like the last horse and buggy salesman who was holding out as cars took over the roads,” Arnie has said.

“I don’t want to be the last investor in Blockbuster as Netflix emerged. That’s exactly what is going to happen to fossil fuels.”
