Shop in the men’s section: Seven newsreader reveals top fashion tip

Seven newsreader Sally Bowrey has named her top fashion buy for the year - and it didn’t come from the women’s section.

How to get a fashionable outfit for under $100

Inside My Wardrobe

Anyone who likens their wardrobe to their favourite cocktail gets an immediate thumbs up from me. Introducing the fabulous wardrobe of Sally Bowrey where “Mum jeans”, Scanlan Theodore dresses, glo-mesh and 90s influences reign supreme.

While she may have succumbed to the early 2000s bleached-brow trend, Sally’s wardrobe has evolved into a well-curated and tasteful edit where a “buy once, buy well” attitude agrees with her.

Her recommendation to shop the Uniqlo men’s department is a great tip – I’ve been doing this for years and can confirm this unusual shopping destination is a winner!

How would you describe your personal style?

The same way I like my drinks – classic, (occasionally bold) and always finished with a twist.

Who are your style icons?

Chloe Sevigny, “90s” Gwyneth Paltrow and Zendaya.

What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe?

A glo-mesh handbag which my Nanna made me when I was eight, it is so old it’s back in fashion!

What are your favourite brands?

Australian brands such as Camilla & Marc, Scanlan Theodore, Bianca Spender and Rebecca Vallance are top of the list, mixed with brands like Staud and Ganni.

Have you ever made a style faux pas?

Bleaching my eyebrows in the early 2000s … which I do not recommend.

What’s the most you have spent on an outfit?

My philosophy is buy once, buy well. So, if you calculate outfits on cost per wear, they are all very reasonable! At least that is what I tell my accountant.

What is the most surprising thing in your wardrobe?

The clothes moths that ate every single jumper I own this year. That was a surprise indeed.

Top three wardrobe must haves?

A great suit, white T-shirts and plenty of SHOES!

What is the most sentimental item in your wardrobe?

I’d have to say my wedding dress … even though it still has mud stains on the train.

What would you buy if money was no object?

A Bvlgari Serpenti watch encrusted with diamonds.

Summer or Winter Fashion?

I like mid-season dressing. Not too hot, not too cold, you can wear what you want and feel just right.

Denim or Dresses?

I use to wear a lot of dresses but now that I am permanently running around after kids I have switched to the mum jeans.

Heels or sneakers?

I love a mid-heel, comfortable but with a little lift. One of my favourites are brands would have to be Neous.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Too many. I’ll need to come back as a centipede in my next life!

Favourite fashion era?

I love the 90s at the moment, epitomised by Caroline Kennedy Bassett in those Calvin Klein Slip dresses and pea coats.

Best Designer fashion purchase this year?

A pair of Valentino studded slides, they are like a really lux version of Birkenstocks.

Best bargain fashion purchase this year?

White men’s T-shirts from Uniqlo.

Three beauty products you can’t live without.

Zinc cream, water and SLEEP … and when the last two aren’t possible plenty of Three Warriors fake tan.
