Video shows why Aussies are always disappointed with European beaches

European beaches have a Fergie-like glamorous reputation. But many antipodes find them uncomfortable - in more ways than one.

Comfort beats class any day, I reckon.
Comfort beats class any day, I reckon.

If the shingles don't give you shingles, you don't stub your toe on a pebble, you find yourself a spare metre of sand, you haven't been brought up to be embarrassed about public nudity, you prefer ball hugging 'euro swim shorts' over boardies and you don't mind being accosted by sarong-sellers then you'll love the beaches in Europe. If not, you might prefer Australia's.

What's life without a bit of cherry picking? Nothing, it turns out, as a video is currently blowing through TikTok's desert landscape of lip sync videos and oooowee! soundtracks, showing why Australia's beaches are better, in every conceivable way, than Europe's.

Why? Space. That's right, our beaches are (generally) much longer and - barring Bondi - less trafficked than Europe's postcard ports, to the point where the poster of the clip, TikTok user chloeandjacksonn, wrote: "It's not even a competition."

This was their caption for the above video, which is entitled: "beaches in Europe vs beaches in Australia." As you might have guessed, Australian beaches win, with the video showing a crowded beach in Italy, Polignano a Mare, looking as sardine-like as a Sydney train station when there's been an unexplained delay.

The video then switches to footage of a bunch of empty Australian beaches, with the caption "whole beach to yourself." That's right: though our public transport sucks, our beaches are beyond reproach (other than, as some TikTok users pointed out, the sharks, crocodiles, blue ring octopus, sea snakes, groaning outdoor gym goers, black widow spiders and the fact that you need a car to access many of them).

Though it's news to us our beaches have black widows, they're right in that our beaches are generally more dangerous (and that the remote ones are hard to find without a car). There you have it, Europe: all you need to do if you want 'better' beaches is to throw in a few dangerous wave machines and pull the pin on all your public transport systems.

Voila, problem solved. Now we just need to decide who has the best booze and coffee..
