The search for the perfect pair of jeans has long frustrated women, but new statistics reveal that millions of Australian women have discovered the holy grail of denim, and they are under $50.

A staggering 1 in 8 Australian women now own Target’s Sophie jeans, with over 1.1 million pairs sold since launching at the discount department store in 2015.

The jeans, which retail for $20-$39, launched from humble beginnings with two style options and one length, but are now available in both ankle and crop length and in 17 different options including various shades of blue and black and with distressing, raw hems and stripe details.

Marie Philippou, Target Australia’s denim buyer, says the jeans have a cult fashion following nationally.

“We couldn’t be prouder that our Sophie jean is a wardrobe favourite, and owned by 1 in 8 Australian women,” she said.

“Target’s Sophie jeans were named after my first car, a trusty 1969 Hillman Hunter — because, just like my first car, our Sophie jeans are durable, have longevity and always stand out in a crowd.”

The Sophie jeans are available in junior sizes for girls as well as women’s up to size 26.

Ms Philippou says the versatility of the Sophie jeans allows women of every size, shape and age to wear the jeans to suit their lifestyle.

“Whether it’s pairing them with sneakers for a casual weekend look or wearing a darker shade with heels and a dressy top for night time glamour, the Sophie jeans suit any lifestyle.”
