The question Nicole Kidman asked before taking on a sex scene with her bestie’s ex

'The Perfect Couple' star has some intimate scenes with Liev Schreiber in the hit Netflix series, so naturally she went to Naomi Watts first. 

If you think The Perfect Couple is all people are talking about right now, you'd be correct. The hit Netflix series starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber is getting a lot of attention. 

Partly because it's the binge-series White Lotus fans have been craving, and the other part because it just doesn't quite live up to the hype online.

Before taking on the role that will eventually see Netflix subscribers spending a collective 103.5 million hours watching and shoot straight to number one on the streaming platform, Nicole Kidman had one very important question she needed to ask someone. 

That question was aimed at her bestie, Australian actress Naomi Watts and it related to her hot and heavy scenes with her ex-husband, Liev Schreiber. 

Nicole stars alongside Liev in the binge-able drama series based on Elin Hilderbrand's novel, playing wealthy author and controlling mother, Greer Garrison Winbury. Liev plays her equally powerful husband Tag Winbury, whose sex appeal practically oozes all over anyone he meets. Yes, even those watching the show. 

Knowing full well some of the scenes they star in together would get people talking, Nicole decided it was only best to ask her long-time pal if she felt comfortable with her taking the role opposite her ex before she officially signed on.

Nicole asked Naomi Watts for permission to star opposite her ex

Nicole and Naomi have been friends for 30+ years. During their friendship, she grew close to Naomi's hubby during their time together between 2005-2016, but nothing as close as what she was about to experience on screen. 

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Liev is heard asking Nicole if it was true that she sought his ex-wife's permission to play his on-screen wife. 

“I heard a story that you asked Naomi first if it was okay [to work together],” he posed to his co-star, to which she simply replied: "Of course."

The actor couldn't hide how he impressed he was with the respect between the two friends. 

“Isn’t that amazing?” he said to the interviewer. “That’s how close they are.”

Indeed. But the information fans really want to know is, how did Naomi respond to Nicole's request for approval?

Naomi's answer to Nicole before her role opposite Liev

Spoiler: obviously she was fine with it because Nicole moved on to take the role and have everyone watch on during that window scene. 

And just like Liev, Naomi was also humbled by Nicole's professionalism and respect for their long friendship. 

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Toronto International Film Festival, Naomi confirmed the fact that Nicole came to her before accepting the role. 

“We always check in, we’re besties," she said, adding that she appreciated the thought. "That was very kind of her to do that.”

Whether or not she has watched the series and witnessed some of the scenes is yet to be determined.
