It was a thrilling grand final seniors match between Phillip Island Bulldogs and Nar Nar Goon “The Goon” Football Club in the West Gippsland league on the weekend.
Held at the Garfield Recreation Reserve on Saturday, crowds of spectators were in for what was an entertaining watch after the game kicked off at 2.30pm.
People were encouraged to arrive nice and early to avoid missing out on a car park, as many spaces were occupied quickly.
Supporters of both teams cheered on, beeped their horns and swung their scarfs around after each team scored.
Nar Nar Goon took home the incredible grand final win, making them this year’s senior premiers champions — finishing with a score of 14-3-87 —defeating the Bulldogs whose score results were 10-3-63.
Crowds made their way to the middle of the oval to congratulate Nar Nar Goon on their exciting win for 2024.
Nar Nar Goon Football Club player Dermie Yawney said it was his first grand final win and he felt relieved when he heard the siren at the end of the match.
“It’s the best day of my life,” Mr Yawney said.
“It was the best feeling ever — I don’t even know what to say.”
He said he was excited for next season.
Social media influencer Tom Baulch, aka Prime Train, faced his biggest challenge yet.
Balunch, who has 125,000 Instagram followers, made the Bulldogs his home after completing his playing roadshow in July.
Firing off eight goals in his first appearance for Phillip Island, he has played in six wins from seven matches with the Bulldogs.
“He’s been really good, he’s fitted in well,” Phillip Island football manager Scott Huther said.
“He’s just a 24-year-old kid doing what he does.
“He’s actually a ripper.”
“Loading... 3 sleeps, see you at Garfield on Saturday,” Baulch shared through his Prime Training Facebook page this week.
The Goon also beat Cora Lynn in the preliminary final which reached the decider, and are chasing their first senior flag since 2010.
The Herald Sun attended the match to capture all the pictures and action of the players and their supporters.
