THE Royal Melbourne Show is a big hit with kids, giving young Melburnians a chance to get hands on with animals you don’t normally find in your backyard.

THERE’S plenty to quack about at the Melbourne Showgrounds this year.

From sheep and lambs to goats and fluffy ducklings, the animal nursery at the Melbourne Show is a big hit with the kids.

The enclosure gives youngsters the chance to get up close and personal with some friendly barnyard animals, feeding and learning how to care for them.

Ashleigh, 4, who visited the animal enclosure yesterday, is among thousands of children expected through the gates
in the next 11 days.

Animal nursery manager Alisa Nye says the nursery is one of the most important aspects of the show.

“It allows children from the city the opportunity to interact with animals in a safe and enjoyable environment,” she said.

“Ashleigh’s favourite part of the nursery is collecting the eggs from the chickens each morning.”

Other favourites include the sheep-shearing show, BMX stunts, the woodchop tree-felling, and the Country Women’s Association Kitchen’s sweet delights.
