Melbourne spring school holiday activity costs compared
THERE’S plenty of activities for kids to get stuck into during the school holidays. But the fun comes at a cost. We compared the prices of some of Melbourne’s favourites.

VICTORIAN families are spoilt for choice with school holiday activities. But the fun comes at a rising cost.
Families are spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars a day at some of the best known holiday outing destinations.
We checked out some of the best value spots and those you’ll have to save your pennies ahead of time for a great day out.
ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW
Families heading to the Royal Melbourne Show will be set back $40 for an adult and $20 for each kid, or they can opt for a family pass for two adults and two children for $88.
But show costs don’t stop there, with most show bags selling around the $25 mark and most rides costing between $6 and $20.
SEALIFE AQUARIUM
Another school break favourite is the aquarium, with a trip to SEALIFE Melbourne costing kids $28 and adults $42. A family of four can snag a ticket for $99.
MELBOURNE ZOO
The Melbourne Zoo drops its prices during holidays, with kids under 16 getting in free and adults cost $36.
Mum of two Evelyn Tate said a day at the zoo was a fun and educational day out which is value for money.
“The school holidays are a costly experience having two boys and when choosing activities the more outdoors you are the better it is,” she said.
“Our boys love the zoo, there’s lots to see and plenty of adventures to go on — it’s just such a wonderful day.”
Melbourne Zoo Director Kevin Tanner said the holidays were the perfect time to take your little monkeys to meet the animals.
“Children under four are always free, and children under 16 are also free on weekends and during the state school holiday periods, making this a perfect time for family visits.” he said.
EUREKA SKYDECK
A trip to one of the best views in town at Eureka Skydeck costs $20 per adult and $11.50 per child under 17. Kids under four get in free. A family ticket for two adults and two children is $46.
Additional activities, including photos and The Edge experience, cost extra.
MCG
On Sunday the MCG will open their doors for a free Open Day event.
Kids can take to the turf for a kick-to-kick with family and friends and explore usually off-limit areas, including the change rooms.
The MCC also put on tours of the MCG, with combined National Sports Museum with tour tickets coming to $17 for a child and $33 for an adult. A family of four can soak up the sporting history for the reduced price of $73.
Next week the MCC will also be running sessions with current and recently retired AFL and AFLW players, at an additional cost of $10 per person on top of museum entry.
