A FOOTSCRAY theatre company is teaching children about recycling, reusing and reducing in a new school holiday production.
Wit Incorporated’s A Hero’s Guide to Saving the Planet tells the story of superhero Captain Eco and her sidekick The Green Defender as they try to stop supervillain The Waster from covering Footscray streets with litter.
“The Waster represents that little bit in all of us that doesn’t recycle,” artistic director Belinda Campbell said.
“But throughout the show, we go through ways to save the planet.”
She said the show used a lot of silliness, such as cartoon superheroes and comedy, to spread the message.
Company manager Jennifer Piper said the important message about recycling shines through all the fun.
“It shows that you can make little changes that will have a massive impact on the environment,” she said.
“We can all be superheroes.”
The production is suitable for children of all ages and runs from July 1-15 at the Bluestone Church Arts Space in Footscray.
Tickets are $25 or $70 for a family and can be bought at witinc.com.au/whats-on/hero
