Family sue airline after being kicked off plane for wild reason

A family claims airline workers removed them from the plane following complaints of a bad odour.

Now, they are planning to sue the workers involved in the incident that took place at Miami International Airport, US.

In 2019, Yossi Adler had been due to travel home to Detroit along with his wife Jennie and his 19-month-old daughter.

However, the flight did not go as they had planned.  He said that while on board, flight staff approached the family and removed them "all of a sudden".

He also claimed staff at the airport refused to let the family board the plane again due to "bad body odour" - a claim he strongly denied.

"There's no body odour that we have," he told WPLG Local 10 News at the time. "There's nothing wrong with us."

They told staff they had bathed earlier that day, prior to their flight.

Instead, Yossi believes they were taken off the plane because they are Jewish.

Lawsuit filed over the incident

The family, who are Orthodox Jews, filed a lawsuit after the flight issue they encountered. In it the family's lawyer, Nwadi Nwogu, stated a gate agent approached them while they were seated on the plane and said: "Sir, there's an emergency and you must deplane".

"Once outside, the defendant's agent told Mr. Adler that the pilot was booting the family off the plane because of body odor.

"Mr. Adler asked the agent if the body odour was emanating from him, his wife or child and the agent would not respond to the question but continued to state that the Adlers must leave the plane at the instruction of the pilot and because they had extremely offensive body odor,” the suit claimed.

The family was advised that their luggage would be removed from the plane but said it didn’t happen.

“They have our car seat, stroller, everything,” Jennie said at the time.

The lawsuit was filed in 2020 and it's not clear what has happened since then.

Airline insists odour was an issue

An American Airlines spokesperson released a statement following the incident confirming that the family were removed from the flight after complaints about body odour.

"Mr Adler and his wife were removed from the flight when several passengers complained about their body odour," the spokesperson said.

“They have been booked into a hotel for the night and given meal vouchers. They have been rebooked on a flight Thursday."

The family were re-booked onto a separate flight later on.
