Apparently, we shouldn't be eating the food on planes.
And no, it's not just because the bread rolls always taste just a little bit stale or that the scrambled eggs leave a powdery taste in your mouth (although both these reasons are very valid.)
According to a flight attendant - there's actually a very good health reason to avoid the meal service when flying.

Why you shouldn't drink the tap water on the plane
Despite being the very person who hands these meals out to you, a flight attendant has shared why we shouldn't be eating plane food.
Speaking to Express, flight attendant Celia Bedding began by saying that passengers should avoid drinking tap water on board, even if they think it'll save them money on drinks.
"For any passengers out there, whether you are a frequent flyer, an occasional flyer, a seasonal flyer or will be a first-time flyer soon, I would like to say to you: NEVER drink tap water from the plane bathroom," said Bedding.
"Many studies have shown it's not sanitary for drinking. You may have seen the sign already as most planes have it by the tap.
"You may have thought it's just a way to get you to buy a drink. But it's actually for your own health. So definitely do not drink tap water on a plane."

Why you shouldn't eat the food on planes
In terms of the food, Bedding says to "avoid it as much as you can" as it contains high quantities of salt which is bad for your health, especially when flying.
So why are plane meals so salty?
Apparently, it's because the cabin pressure means people lose around 30 per cent of their taste buds.
So to account for this, the companies that prepare the airline food add much more salt in order for it to still taste good a 40,000 feet.
In order to avoid this, Bedding says to opt for things like salad or fruits, as these tend to have less or no salt.
"Also, make sure you drink plenty of water, before, during and after a flight to stay hydrated."
