Jimmy Barnes is making a brave recovery after undergoing serious heart surgery.
The legendary Aussie rocker was up on his feet in a new picture posted to his social media channels, slowly walking the hospital corridor on Saturday.
His wife Jane provided an update.
“Here with ‘Our Jimmy’ update for all you well wishers sending in #positivity. Day 3 post op we had a few walks up and down the hallway. 250m I’d say. A tough & fragile day but here’s a big brave smile for us. Keep up the good work Jimmy.”
Barnes has been in intensive care as surgeons sought to replace an infected heart valve.
He had been battling a bacterial infection for two weeks which spread to the heart.
His latest health setback will likely keep him off the road for at least the next four months.
On Thursday Jane gave an update on the 67 year-old singer.
“Here to update you about our Jimmy. Good progress today in ICU. Some massive tubes have come out and first physio visit.
“Clearing lungs and deep breathing, we know he’s good at that!”
Jane said the messages were giving them strength.
“Every single one counts so please keep them coming,” she said.
“We are so grateful for the incredible medical team looking after him. Thank you for all of the love and support. I will keep you all posted.”
Barnes was due to perform at the annual Summernats festival in Canberra in January and headline another leg of Red Hot Summer tour through to mid February.
His show for the Great Southern Nights program at the Enmore Theatre on March 9, which was only announced last week, may also be cancelled.
Barnes last performed in Melbourne at the Mushroom 50 Live concert on November 26.
In revealing his health battle, he wrote: “Obviously this is going to take me out of action for a while. I know lots of other people are battling even worse things but it still feels hugely frustrating.
“Just a few weeks ago I was the fittest I’ve been in decades! Anyway, as you can hopefully appreciate, this has all happened very suddenly so it’s going to take a few days for everyone to figure out what’s going to be doable with my upcoming shows.
“I’m really sorry for all the inconvenience this will cause but please be patient while my team works hard to figure things out. A new plan will be announced as soon as possible.”
