Jimmy Barnes’ family give heartwarming update following open-heart surgery

The Australian rock legend was forced to undergo open-heart surgery on Wednesday after a bacterial infection spread to his heart.

The wife of Australian rockstar Jimmy Barnes has shared an update on his condition after he was rushed to hospital for a serious health issue.

The Cold Chisel frontman, 67, underwent open heart surgery after a bacterial infection that he’s been fighting over the last two weeks spread to a heart valve.

Sharing a touching photo to social media, Barnes’ wife Jane confirmed he had made “good progress”.

“Jane here to update you about our Jimmy,” his partner said on Thursday, sharing a photo of Barnes smiling in his hospital bed.

“Good progress today in ICU. Some massive tubes have come out and first physio visit.

“Clearing lungs and deep breathing, we know he’s good at that!

“Our family thanks each and everyone for your well wishes, every single one counts so please keep them coming️.”

Fellow musicians such as Jeff Neill were quick to show their support for the Australian rock legend.

“Great news Jane, thank you so much for keeping us updated,” Neill wrote.

“Lots of love from our home to yours.”

It is expected Barnes’ upcoming shows in December, January and February will be cancelled.

The singer was also forced to cancel a tour in 2022 after undergoing emergency back and hip surgery.
