She, like any aspiring girl-about-town, has an uplifting backstory.
Jacket, a beautiful kelpie, was once an abandoned pup roaming the road in southwest Victoria.
“She came from the Warrnambool RSPCA,” her owner Rose Kean said on Thursday. “Someone found her running along a country lane.”
Fast forward to a new life in the big city, and the hipster hound is the face on the can of her own India Pale Ale (IPA), and the good looker representing November in a 2020 dog calendar.
Jacket’s IPA is a West Coast style IPA using an experimental yeast called Kviek.
Brook Hornung, of Abbotsford craft brewer Moon Dog, maker of Jacket’s beer and calendar, said: “Jacket is an absolute star. She is our go-to dog around here for anything that requires good behaviour and obedience.”
Other dogs with their own beer at Moon Dog include Edie, an adopted wolf hound X, with a West Coast IPA, Tiger, German shepherd, with a Kiwi Hopped IPA, and Vinnie, a shih tzu, with a Hazy IPA.

“It seems like a good connection for us,” Mr Hornung said. “All the dogs on the cans are brewer’s dogs, and it’s a nice way to bring everyone together. Plus, at the end of the day, everyone loves dogs, which is helpful.”
The calendar showcases “more broadly, the dogs throughout the business”.
The beer maker recently opened a theme-park style brewery bar featuring a waterfall, lagoon, tiki bar, and beer garden in Preston.
