Lune Croissant debuts at Formula One Australian Grand Prix 2024

Melbourne’s favourite queue-worthy croissants will make their trackside debut at next month’s Australian Grand Prix — and in an ambitious move, they’ll be baked fresh on site daily.

Inside Lune Making Australia's best croissants

Pastry queen Kate Reid is having a full circle moment.

The former Formula One engineer turned Lune founder is for the first time selling her cult-famous croissants at the Australian Grand Prix next month.

Not one to do things by halves, Reid will also prove and bake some pastries on-site to guarantee that ‘hot from the oven’ feeling.

“Getting that warm puff of buttery steam or melty chocolate when you bite into a freshly baked croissant — it’s such a special experience,” Reid said.

“Baking at the circuit will be a real point of difference. The smell of Lune croissants, butter and Formula 1 fuel is an exciting mix.”

Lune will be located in the general admission area, near turn one and two, conveniently next door to Lavazza Coffee.

Four croissant flavours will hit the grid — plain, pain au chocolate, almond and ham and gruyere — alongside lemon cruffins and kouign-amann. The plain, pain au chocolate and ham and gruyere will be baked at the track, with an army of pastry chefs prepping raw dough at Lune’s Fitzroy HQ.

“The almond croissant and kouign-amann actually benefit from not being served fresh from the oven, kind of like cake,” she said.

Reid said selling Lune at the Australian Grand Prix was a good fit.

“To have Lune at the Grand Prix, I’ve never heard of anything more appropriate. It really does feel like a full circle moment,” she said.

For those unable to snare a trackside ticket, Lune is selling a limited edition Formula One themed croissant at its Melbourne and Brisbane stores for the month of March.

“It’s a bespoke, twice-baked croissant celebrating the Australian Formula One Grand Prix. It’s unconfirmed for now, but we’ll be tapping into Aussie nostalgia and lamingtons.”
