A long-running Japanese restaurant has shut for good after almost three decades of trade.
Southbank stalwart Miyako Japanese Cuisine and Teppanyaki has held its final service after 27-years in the game.
The owners shared the sad news with a heartfelt message on their website and social media platforms on Sunday.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Miyako,” the message read.
“We want to extend our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and patronage over the past 27 years since we first opened on 11 May 1997.”
“Serving you has been our greatest pleasure and than you for all the wonderful memories.”
It remains unclear what led to the snap closure of the business, that has held tenure inside the three-level Southgate restaurant and shopping complex.
Devastated customers took to social media to share their sorrow.
“So sad. Food was always excellent, as was the service,” one wrote.
“We’re sorry to see you go. We were regular customers and enjoyed the food, sake and wonderful service,” another said.
The sushi bar, teppanyaki and a la carte restaurant took off in the ’90s, and was a magnet for renowned Japanese chefs, such as Yosuke Furukawa (Izakaya Den, Robata).
More to come.
