Australians have uncovered a little-known hack to get their favourite summer treat more than once a fortnight.
It’s not uncommon to hear the bell of Home Ice Cream during summer. But, if you miss the truck, you are now out of luck for the next two weeks.
However, TikTok user @littlemissfion recently discovered a hack that meant Aussies don’t need to wait days to get their hands on a Treasure Trove or a Bowen Mango bar.
“This used to be my childhood favourite,” Fion told her TikTok following.
“Waiting at my driveway, waving down the truck. But did you know you can buy directly from their depot?”
Fion recommended calling in advance to make sure someone was there to help with the purchase. She said she needed to bring exact cash because the site she went to didn’t have any spare change.
She purchased Bowen Mango, Mint Drumsticks and Strawberry Swirl Sundae — all for $19. The Bowen Mango sticks have 20 pieces inside.
A spokesperson from Home Ice Cream confirmed that it was true, with the three depots being available to the public.
The Sydney and Brisbane depots are open from 9am until 4pm. The Toowoomba depot is open from 9am until 5pm. Customers can pay cash or card, and just have to visit during opening houses.
Depot purchases have been available for a few years and have proven to be an incredibly popular part of the business.
Social media users were stunned by the revelation, with many waxing nostalgic about the brand.
“Thanks for this! Home ice cream hits different especially the vanilla tubs! And they never stop in my street,” one said.
Another added: “I gotta go relive my childhood dreams now.”
“These Home Ice Cream trucks need to make a comeback, start driving around again. I miss these trucks so much, I felt like I was tearing up seeing this video,” one said.
“OMMMMGGG THERE’S A DEPOT,” one added.
Another said: “I used to get Home Ice Cream in Sydney and when I lived in Queensland and that we don’t get it here in Newcastle and oh my god I miss hearing the bell..”
“So many memories. My dad was a driver for over 10 years. I grew up learning mathematics by counting the money every weekend,” another social media user said.
One said: “I didn’t even knew you could do this! I thought they only come once a fortnight and if you miss it that’s it!”
“Omg are they still around? Sooo nostalgic their mango ones were the BEST,” one said.
Another added: “They need to come back! Their ice cream recipe was iconic!!!! Nothing else tastes the same. I loved so many of them.”
“Home Ice Cream comes regularly and I always get a box every fortnight,” one said.
