Grill’d have “flipped the bird” at fast food giant KFC with a cheeky stunt to promote the launch of their Healthy Fried Chicken (HFC).
In a campaign to support the new menu item’s launch, the healthier-for-you fast food chain boldly positioned trucks outside KFC stores in Melbourne and Sydney on Tuesday, featuring billboards with the message: “Dear KFC employees, you get free HFC”.
The caveat, written underneath a picture of the HFC bites, is that employees at the fast food chain can only redeem the offer at Grill’d if they’re wearing their KFC uniform.
Posters have also been pinned outside stores declaring, “Everyone deserves Healthy Fried Chicken”, “Don’t eat the dirty bird”, and “We use RSPCA approved 100% chicken breast”.

“We are doing what we have done for many years for burgers, now for fried chicken,” Grill’d founder Simon Crowe said in a statement.
“Investing in quality ingredients is an investment in our health and we’re biting back against the myth that fried chicken can’t be healthy. There’s a new, healthier player in the fried chicken game, and it’s about time.”
The new HFC bites come in a plain or sticky honey soy flavour, are 100 per cent natural, gluten-free, made with hormone-free RSPCA-approved chicken breast, and are cooked in Australian extra virgin olive oil – in a bid to provide Australians with another “satisfyingly guilt-free, healthy option”.

Founding director of Food and Nutrition Australia, Sharon Natoli, said it was “great” to see Grill’d making the switch to extra virgin olive oil when cooking the tasty snack.
“This move is an indicator of their commitment to continually innovating to make food that is healthier for you,” Ms Natoli said.
“Extra virgin olive oil is a healthy choice as the non-chemical and non-high temperature extraction process used to produce it retains the natural antioxidants, vitamin E and polyphenols present in the olives.”
