Diners at Westfield Parramatta were met with a truly horrifying sight - giant rats brazenly scurrying through the food court.
A stomach-churning video captured by a disgusted onlooker and shared to Instagram shows the massive rodents darting between tables and under chairs, seemingly unfazed by the presence of people.
The footage has since gone viral, sparking a wave of horrified reactions online.
“Hi Jerry,” joked one commenter, referencing the iconic cartoon mouse.
But the reality is far from amusing.
“The size!!! Are they on protein shakes?” exclaimed another, highlighting the sheer size of the unwelcome visitors.
Some commenters pointed out the unfortunate irony: “Immediately recognised Parra Westfields cause the escalators aren’t working,” one wrote, implying a general state of disrepair.
Others took a more philosophical approach: “Rats live everywhere humans do......so what are you saying shame for,” one commenter pondered.
A Westfield Parramatta spokesperson said: “We operate our centre with a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule, which includes pest control measures. We will be completing additional pest controls this week.”
However, this isn’t the first time Westfield Parramatta has found itself in the spotlight over rodent residents.
Back in May 2022, a similarly large rat was filmed scurrying through the same food court, even earning the moniker “Rat King”.
At the time, Westfield assured the public that “regular and proactive pest control inspections and activities” were in place.
However, this latest incident suggests those measures may not be sufficient.
