It costs a little more than $7 a bottle and is already flying off the shelves after being named the best value red wine in Australia.

A shiraz costing $7.30 a bottle is flying off the shelves after being named the best value red wine by an esteemed wine writer.

Victorian winery De Bortoli’s Sacred Hill shiraz 2019 was named by Western Australia wine writer Ray Jordan as the best value wine in his annual Top 100 Reds Magazine on Thursday.

About 24 hours later, some Dan Murphy’s stores weren’t showing availability of the fruit-forward red wine online.

Dan Murphy’s assured customers the wine hadn’t sold out and was still available.

Mr Jordan gave the De Bortoli drop the title after tasting more than 700 wines.

“How a wine of this quality can sell for less than $8 still amazes me,” he said.

“Perfect to get a case for the coming months.”

The wine has won a stack of awards, taking out a gold medal at the 2020 Riverina GI Wine Show and recently a bronze medal at the 2021 Cairns Wine Show.

The wine has bright floral, red berry and spice aromas and tastes like plum, blackberries and hints of dark chocolate and oak.
