LAKES FRESH FOOD MARKET

This Italian family run and operated small food market has fresh fruit and veg, a great butcher and probably the biggest deli I’ve ever seen. I always slip a couple hundred grams of prosciutto San Daniele and a burrata or two in the trolley.

ANGIE’S KITCHEN

This is our local for dumplings, the xiao long bao are excellent, as well as their pan-fried dumplings. Everything is made in house, and their menu is great value.

CEDAR BAKERY

This reminds me of the classic Lebanese bakeries along Sydney Road in Brunswick. Their pastries are fantastic — we love the zataar pizzas and halloumi pies — and they have a pantry section of Middle Eastern goods.

CARBONE CAFE

We’re lucky to have Carbone Cafe as our local. I’m a sucker for a takeaway egg and bacon roll from here on a busy morning, and if I have time for a leisurely brunch, I love the smashed avocado with ricotta, cherry tomatoes and poached eggs on toast.

SWEET LULUS CAFE

This is a great little cafe in Keilor Village that serves excellent breakfast. Their eggs Benedict is perfect every time. Great coffee and fresh squeezed juice.

ARUNDEL FARM ESTATE

Arundel Farm Estate is just down the road from us, but it feels like you could be anywhere in regional Victoria. A beautiful property complete with its own vineyard, cellar door and restaurant. There’s plenty of wine for mum and dad and plenty of kid-friendly options like pizza, too.

321 Arundel Rd, Keilor

FYI: CBD favourite Il Bacaro celebrates 25 years with a new-look dining room and serves lunch and dinner Mon-Sat at 168 Lt Collins St. ilbacaro.com.au
