Miinot Gelato

Miinot Gelato has an ever changing selection, ranging from simple flavours using the best seasonal fruit such as pink grapefruit with Campari, to the innovative and unique such as bread and butter, or cannoli. The staff are also a highlight, super friendly and ready to help guide you through the selection. You’d be hard pressed to find better gelato in Melbourne.

Healthy Fresh food boxes

Just over the threshold into Brunswick (though he delivers to Pascoe Vale) every Friday Andrew at Healthy Fresh food boxes delivers organic veggies from Day’s Walk farm, a freshly baked loaf from Oven St. Bakery and an extra treat (freshly roasted coffee beans, pickled veggies or some organic chocolate) to our front door.

Circa 900 pizza

One of only a handful of pizza shops in Melbourne with the coveted Verace Pizza Napoletana certification, Circa 900 dishes out proper Neapolitan style pies, as well as pizza fritte and deep fried Calzone – a style of calzone typical of Campania. My go-to is the mortadella pizza – thin slices of mortadella and grilled eggplant on a perfectly charred base.

O’Heas bakery

Originally opening in 1956, this continental deli/food store/bakery/cafe is like our local piece of Lygon St but just around the corner. With a range of cakes, pastries and breads, local and imported booze, smallgoods and groceries, complete with photos of the entire family taking pride of place on the wall. Our family frequents the burger nights from Wednesday to Friday - American style burgers with soft brioche buns, dill pickles and yellow mustard – classic and delicious.

Good Times Coffee

For a caffeine fix on the way to the park with the kids, this hole-in-the-wall spot has the best lattes in the hood. They’ve also got cold brew, organic teas and chai, as well as a great selection of pastries and treats.

Primrose and Vine

Just over the border into Essendon, Primrose and Vine is the drive through bottle shop of your dreams. With an excellent range of wines that appeal to everyone from the natty crew to the old school, as well as an awesome selection of beer and spirits, this is Melbourne’s fanciest drive-through.

80 Primrose St, Essendon

FYI: Meatsmith specialty butcher and wine merchant is now accepting orders for Christmas produce –including rare-breed ham and turkey, oysters and Champagne – for delivery Victoria-wide. meatsmith.com.au
