Best place for a coffee and breakfast

CHACHI

These guys are a little hidden gem cafe on Healesville’s main street serving up Lilydale roasted Proximal Coffee – so you know it’s going to be good. The delicious Italian-inspired cafe menu is always a hit. The baked eggs, pasta and pizzas are created with love and the charm of the cafe makes for a great stop while you are in the area. They work with local produce and have a really strong community feel. A local hero in my eyes.

Best counter meal and beer

HEALESVILLE HOTEL

Since the relaunch, the Healesville Hotel has been killing it, always serving up great pub meals, particularly the chicken liver parfait, which is possibly the best I’ve had in Victoria in a long time. The Tuesday pasta deals are amazing and as a local, we can’t go past happy hour

during the week. It is a wonderful after work meeting place to grab a pint of beer or a glass

of local wine to decompress after a long day.

Where I take the family

INNOCENT BYSTANDER

Pizza, paella and a fantastic snacks list. This is by far the best spot to take the whole family.

The staff are very welcoming and the pizza is always delicious. They have wine on tap and a

great selection of local beers and brews. I have been coming here for years and I am never

disappointed. Leave room for dessert, as it’s always a good idea. Located right in the heart of Healesville, it’s an iconic local and is worth a visit.

Where I stock the pantry, fridge and freezer

KITCHEN AND BUTCHER

Possibly my favourite spot in Healesville. I have always been so inspired walking into this

larder with the array of thoughtfully sourced ingredients and pantry needs. It is a chef’s playground as there are a plethora of ingredients to play with, making any dinner party shine. If I don’t feel like cooking, their fridge and freezer are always stocked with ready-to-go meals, in particular, the lamb moussaka is delicious. Along with their cheese cabinet, it’s what dreams are made of. You can’t go wrong stopping here on a weekend away or for an after work meal idea.

When I want to be a little fancy

EMERALD CITY

Joel Alderdice and Brendan Cavanagh are absolutely superstars. Chef Joel has worked tirelessly to create an intimate dining room, serving delicate and flavourful dishes that we are all so proud to call the best food in Healesville. The four-seater restaurant is truly a chef’s table experience you cannot miss. The standout dish is Joel’s snack apple, macadamia jam and watermelon radish, a true flavour bomb. Owner and Whiskey Extraordinaire, Brendan sources some of the world’s finest whiskeys, shakes up killer cocktails (my go-to is the peach sour) and is always on point.
