Arnott’s to release Shapes Hawaiian Pizza flavour

When Arnott's shared an April Fool’s prank about a “controversial” flavour, Aussies begged for it to be real — and it is.

What started off as an April Fool’s joke has turned out to be for real, after Arnott’s confirmed its “controversial” new Shapes flavour will hit stores soon.

This morning, the renowned Aussie biscuit maker took to social media to announce its all-new Shapes Hawaiian Pizza.

“Say aloha to the newest addition to the Shapes Family … HAWAIIAN PIZZA!” Arnott’s captioned the snap of a bright-coloured Shapes box.

“If there’s one thing everyone can agree on, it’s that sweet, juicy pineapple BELONGS on pizza.”

Hundreds of people bombarded the post noting that while they knew it was April Fool’s today, they hoped the new flavour to be true.

There were also plenty of others who were quick to say pineapple “definitely doesn’t deserve to be on a pizza”.

“Don’t effing tease, this is a brilliant idea!!!” one follower wrote.

“If it was not April first I would say where can I get some,” said another.

“This better not be an April Fool’s hoax,” a third person commented, while a fourth added, “I know it’s a joke but I wanted these to be a thing so bad.”

Well, lucky for them, it’s not a joke as Arnott’s have confirmed that the new flavour is set to hit stores in mid-May.

“Pizza is a top-selling flavour for Shapes, and while we know the concept of pineapple on pizza is highly controversial, it’s also loved by many,” Arnott’s marketing manager Shannon Wright told news.com.au.

“We started testing this flavour combination in our Master Baking Kitchen, and when we shared it on Arnott’s Shapes social media, it received an overwhelmingly positive response. “Once we saw how Shapes fans reacted online, we knew the savoury/sweet/tangy combination of Hawaiian Pizza was an absolute winner that we had to release ASAP.”

Arnott’s commissioned research to find out just how many Aussies actually like pineapple on their pizza and interestingly, 66 per cent believe pineapple is an acceptable topping for pizza.

“So, we expect Aussies to embrace this new Shapes flavour – they might even sell out,” Ms Wright said.

“We intentionally wanted to announce the new flavour on April Fool’s, to keep our fans guessing.

“There have been several fans who naturally thought it was a joke, so we can’t wait for them to find out the new flavour will be available exclusively in Coles nationwide from mid-May.”

The Hawaiian Pizza flavour will retail for $3.20.
