Josh Rudd spends his working hours as head chef at Asado, a South American restaurant in Southbank, but it’s on his way home to Bentleigh where he finds some of his favourite places to grab a bite.

There’s great wood-fired pizza, a “guilty pleasure”, and what he says are the best schnitzels in Melbourne.

COULD YOU EAT CANE TOAD FOR DINNER?

Da Massimo

Da Massimo serves really authentic, Italian-style wood-fired pizzas. The owners are passionate about what they do and use great quality produce.

Mr Burger

My guilty pleasure is ordering a burger from here on their app while I’m on the train home from the city, then eating it on the way home from the station. Always hits the spot, particularly after a long service.

Noisette

Great spot for freshly baked pastries and French-style bread. They do some seriously good sandwiches, and I love their croissants.

Wolfe & Molone

This neighbourhood wine bar will surprise you with a pretty extensive list. Lots of good bites, too, whether you’re dropping in for snacks or a proper meal.

Time & Place

A great new cafe — these guys are serving up the best coffee in the area and their food is spot on. I regularly head in for a weekday brunch.

929 Centre Rd, Bentleigh East

Marko’s Schnitzel

Marko’s has been there for years and has a cult following — you’ll notice the crowds. They’re serving the best schnitzels in Melbourne, with fresh homemade salads and dips.

2/159 Chesterville Rd, Moorabbin

Jimmy Grants

Chips in a souvlaki — what more could you want? Perfect for a night at home on the couch. I also rate their loukamades.

FYI: With its open fire pit and bespoke charcoal parrilla grill, Asado delivers a slice of South American style to Southbank. Open daily from noon. asado.melbourne
