Woman finds banged up car 200m from where she parked it on Warrnambool St

A young woman was shocked to discover her severely damaged car 200 metres from where she had parked it in Warrnambool. See what happened.

A woman is reeling after discovering her car had been smashed up and pushed metres down the road by a young driver in a four-wheel-drive.

Earlier this week Elanah Battistin was shocked when she first noticed her little green Ford wasn’t where she had parked it on Merivale Rd the night before.

The Seymour resident, who has been staying in Warrnambool, then noticed bits of glass and pieces of her car strewn across the road.

She then saw it — her seriously smashed up car had been pushed about 200m down the nature strip.

The right side of the rear was caved in, windows smashed and the boot crushed inward on an angle.

Elanah saw all the glass and car parts from her car, which was parked on the nature strip about 200m down the road from where she had originally parked it.

“My heart just sank and I honestly didn’t know how to feel. I held myself together really well because that’s all I could do.”

Elanah called the police who arrived at the scene and took photos, then asked nearby residents if they had heard or seen anything.

She was surprised nobody heard the crash due to the extensive damage caused.

“The police didn’t really have a clue on what could have happened but said they would have a look around for cars with green paint on them or anything suspicious,” she said.

It wasn’t until Tuesday night that Elanah got an answer, when the owner of a four-wheel-drive — a young male in his early 20s — knocked on her door, accompanied by his father, and admitted to being responsible.

She was not home at the time, but he made his admission to her flatmate.

“I then rang him and he said to me that it was just a total mistake and he misjudged the corner,” she said.

Elanah's car as a result from the four-wheel-drive smashed into the vehicle early on Sunday morning.

However Elanah doesn’t believe this is entirely correct as she was parked away from the corner and there was a concrete island between it and her car.

He asked Elanah what damage was done to her car and she told him it was likely to be deemed a write-off.

“He apparently didn’t see my car and just drove off... but he also ran into the neighbours’ fence,” Elanah said.

The impact of the crash only did a small amount of damage to his bumper.

Elanah said an assessor cannot look at her car until December and fears the impact it will have on her.

“That is a long time without money and a car for me,” she said. “Definitely not what I need when I’m not even in my home town.”

Police confirmed no charges had been laid.
