A collection of more than 200 cannabis plants have been uncovered inside an abandoned theatre restaurant in Melbourne’s west.

Williamstown police sergeant Glen Close said officers were alerted to the plants after a real estate agent visited the Titanic restaurant on Nelson Place about 3.30pm on Tuesday.

Officers attended the Williamstown site and seized 237 cannabis plants and a hydroponic setup.

No one was inside the restaurant at the time of the raid, and there is no suggestion the owners of the property or restaurant were aware of the plants.

The restaurant is listed as “temporarily closed” on its Google listing and its last Facebook post was on November 27.

Earlier in the month, the restaurant announced that it was under new management.

Sgt Close said officers were looking to speak to a male suspect in relation to Tuesday’s discovery, who remained outstanding.
