Taylors Lakes fire: Cyclist wanted over alleged January 2021 arson attack

Footage has emerged of a cyclist suspected of an alleged arson attack in Melbourne’s west which destroyed properties and forced residents to flee their homes.

A black-clad cyclist is wanted by police a year on from a massive grassfire in Melbourne’s west which destroyed sheds and fences and forced residents to flee their homes.

Brimbank police have released CCTV footage and images of the man as part of their renewed investigation into the alleged arson attack in Taylors Lakes on January 11, 2021.

Detectives believe a fire was deliberately lit in a paddock behind Rowell Place about 3.35pm on January 11, 2021.

The fire, which burnt for about two hours, forced about 40 people to evacuate their homes and damaged five properties and a large area of land.

Police wish to speak to the cyclist, who was spotted in black clothes and believed to be riding a black or purple ‘Huffy’ bike.
