A teenager in Melbourne’s west allegedly filmed himself bashing a pregnant woman who was “howling in pain”, a court has heard.
Tahu Brooke, 19, faced the Werribee Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with making threats to kill and assault.
The court was told the teenager was seen allegedly pushing the woman at a caravan park in Laverton North on February 16 before punching her to the ground.
Reading the statement of alleged facts, a police prosecutor said onlookers were “horrified” by the attack, which allegedly continued with the woman being kicked multiple times on the ground while holding a young child.
He said Mr Brooke could be heard shouting; “I’ll f…… kill you”, during the incident and was arrested at the scene.
In court, defence lawyer Daniel Ajak requested his client be given bail to live with his uncle who would make sure he followed any conditions.
“It’s his first time in custody, he’s a young man,” he submitted.
But Magistrate Kimberley Swadesir said not enough information had been provided about the arrangements that would keep him out of trouble
“The violence described is so concerning, it’s just too serious I can’t bail you today,” she said.
“Your plea to me to release you from custody saying you‘re not going to commit further offences won’t change my mind.”
Ms Swadesir adjourned the bail application to March 24 to allow defence to provide further submissions.
“There’d have to be a significant plan in place to ensure you stay out of trouble before I‘d even consider bailing you,” she said.
