Shop fire on Alexandra St treated suspicious

A shop in Hoppers Crossing burst into flames in the early hours of Wednesday, with investigators treating the cause as suspicious.

More than 25 firefighters have battled a blaze at a shop in Hoppers Crossing in the early hours of Wednesday.

Alexandra St residents made multiple triple-zero calls after seeing a two-storey shop on fire at 1.10am.

Fire Rescue Victoria Senior Officer Cauchi said over firefighters wore breathing apparatus and fought “hard” to bring the fire under control.

“Our crew found the ground floor of the double-storey shop, which measured 20m x 10m, to be well alight and worked hard to bring the fire under control within 15 minutes,” he said.

“The first truck arrived on scene within four minutes, and we requested two additional appliances.”

FRV officer Cauchi said the cause of the fire was believed to be suspicious.

Crews remain on the scene.
