Eight teenagers have been charged and bailed after they allegedly stole and drove two cars in Melbourne’s west, with four boys losing control of their vehicle and trying to flee police.

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives tracked two cars allegedly stolen earlier from Tarneit and Newport to western suburbs on Monday.

They alleged that a Subaru and Kia were being driven erratically around Wyndham and Melton.

Officers used stop sticks on Heaths Rd, Hoppers Crossing to stop the Subaru about 12.15pm, but the vehicle allegedly continued onto Forsyth Rd in Tarneit before losing control.

Four boys allegedly left the car, tried to run from police and were arrested near The Strand, Point Cook.

A police helicopter tracked down the Kia on Fitzgerald Road, Laverton North just after 1pm, and police arrested four more.

There were no injuries.

Two 17-year-olds, four 16-year-olds, and two 15-year-olds – all male – were charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

They were bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.
