The first images of a new railway station and four level-crossing removals in one of Melbourne’s boom communities have been released before two years of construction.
The final designs has been unveiled for Melton’s new station, which will have four platforms from the current two operating for V/Line services.
New Skyrail-style bridges will be built to remove crossings from Coburns and Exford Rds.
And new road bridges with bike and walking paths will also be created on Ferris Rd, Melton, and Hopkins Rd, Truganina.
Construction is to start this year and to be completed by 2026, easing the commute for the more than 73,000 drivers who use the roads daily.
Transport Infrastructure Minister Danny Pearson said removing the four dangerous and congested level crossings would make Melton boom-gate free.
“And it will cut congestion in Melbourne’s booming west,” he said.
The elevated station will have pick-up and drop-off zones, as well as an airconditioned waiting room and a staffed ticket office.
The Melton line upgrade will also provide for nine-car VLocity trains to be brought into service.
The state government’s level-crossing removal program has taken out 84 dangerous sites with a final target of 110 by 2030.
Work is continuing on the Pakenham Line at the Station St level-crossing in Beaconsfield where work on a new roundabout means road closures until Sunday.
