A man has been charged after a mobile speed camera car was allegedly damaged and its operator threatened in Altona.
Detectives from the Hobsons Bay crime investigation unit executed a search warrant at a property on Blackshaws Rd South Kingsville on Thursday February 9, and arrested a man a short time later at an address in Maidstone St, Altona.
A South Kingsville man, 53, has been charged in relation to his alleged involvement in three separate incidents – one on December 4 2022, and the other two on January 25.
In the first incident on December 4, the man allegedly approached a mobile traffic camera on Blackshaws Rd in South Kingsville and proceeded to splash white paint over the car.
In the second incident, the man allegedly was on a bike and approached the vehicle parked on Civic Parade Altona on January 25, where he allegedly became verbally aggressive towards the operator, spitting on the window and proceeded to punch the driver’s side mirror.
It’s alleged the man then returned an hour later and splashed white paint over the vehicle and threatened the operator with a tomahawk.
The South Kingsville man has been charged with criminal damage, abuse road safety camera operator, threaten road safety camera operator, threat to inflict serious injury, possess dangerous article and other offences.
He was expected to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
