Melton South man arrested after wild alleged 180km/h Western Hwy drive
A man allegedly swerved around several cars at up to 180km/h in an emergency lane during a wild drive in Melbourne’s west.

A 41-year-old man is in custody after allegedly hooning unlicensed at 180km/h and swerving around other cars during a wild drive in Melbourne’s west.
The driver was in a red hatchback and was first spotted by the police air wing travelling in the emergency lane of the Western Fwy in Deanside about 1.45pm on March 10.
Police received numerous calls from concerned members of the public as the hatchback allegedly hit speeds of up to 180km/h and dangerously overtook other cars.
It then continued along Ballarat Rd, allegedly reaching speeds of up to 130km/h, before officers stopped the car at the intersection of Duke St and Ballarat Rd in Sunshine.
The Melton South man, who was allegedly driving unlicensed, was arrested and charged with several alleged speeding and traffic offences including reckless conduct endangering life.
He was remanded to face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Elsewhere in Melbourne’s west, another man had his car impounded after officers clocked him at more than double the speed limit on Mount Cottell Rd.
The 61-year-old Albain man was allegedly travelling at 162km/h in an 80km/h zone on March 10, and allegedly threw a beer can out the window shortly before officers pulled him over.
The man blew under the legal blood alcohol limit after a breath test, but is expected to be charged on summons for driving offences and unlawfully depositing litter.
