Two teenage girls have been arrested after they allegedly stole a car in the CBD and led police on a pursuit in Melbourne’s southeast.
Officers responded to reports of the alleged theft of a Toyota sedan about 11pm on March 10.
The duo were unaware the car was fitted with a GPS tracker, and the air wing was able to locate the car as it made its way along the Monash Freeway towards Dandenong.
Officers followed the car on the ground from a distance and tried to intercept it after it pulled into a service station on Heatherton Rd.
The Toyota sped off from the scene, but the girls’ escape was brought to a halt after officers deployed stop sticks further down on Heatherton Rd.
They then dumped the car and ran away, but officers chased them down and arrested the duo a short distance away.
A 14-year-old was charged with car theft, while a 15 year-old was charged with car theft, unlicensed driving and possessing a drug of dependence.
The two girls were bailed to attend a Children’s Court at a later date.
