A man accused of attempting to murder his ex-wife’s new partner in an alleged broad-daylight shooting has faced court.
Police allege Abil Malovski, 38, fired “multiple” shots at the 36-year-old Heathcote man in front of dozens of witnesses on Federation Drive in Melton shortly before 3pm on May 7.
His alleged victim was rushed to the Royal Melbourne hospital with chest wounds.
After the alleged incident police launched a manhunt around the Melton area, saying at the time they believed the alleged shooting was “targeted”.
Mr Malovski handed himself into police two days later and was remanded into custody.
On Monday, the Kurunjang man faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on charges including attempted murder, reckless conduct endangering life and using a firearm in a public place.
He has not been required to enter pleas.
Despite spending 84 days in custody, his lawyer requested an adjournment in the case saying they’d had “enormous difficulty” securing legal aid funding.
“There’s been enormous difficulty getting legal aid funding over the line,” solicitor Adrian Lewin said.
“We need him to sign these documents, but the prison is being quite difficult.”
The matter was adjourned until September 13.
