Emma Jane pleaded guilty at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to dishonesty offences and possessing an imitation firearm on Tuesday.

The court heard that on various dates in 2022, Jane went through mailboxes in Newport, prying some open with a screwdriver to steal mail.

In September, the 21-year-old was the passenger inside a Commodore that was pulled over in Truganina after police noticed it didn’t have number plates.

During the search, police found multiple bank cards, a fuel card, and a cheque that did not belong to Jane but were in her possession.

Police also found a box cutter and an imitation handgun that appeared to be altered.

She originally told police the bank and fuel cards belonged to family friends.

Her lawyer told the court she was a “success story” who had got herself clean after years of using ice nearly everyday.

The court heard she had turned her life around and was training to be an eyelash technician.

She was fined $500 but escaped conviction.

A forfeiture order was made on the stolen items.
