The 29-year-old maintenance worker killed when he was run over by a truck in Melbourne’s west has been identified as Kyle Townsend.
Emergency Services were called to the Diggers Rd workplace in Werribee South just before 1pm on Monday.
It’s understood Kyle Townsend was doing maintenance work underneath a trainer that was hitched to a prime mover when he was struck by the vehicle as it was driven away.
Mr Townsend was flown to the Alfred where he died the next day.
Friend Michael Waites wrote on Facebook: “Hearing the news today that you were gone was absolutely heartbreaking, a young bloke with a young family and your whole life ahead of you, life can be cruel sometimes. I saw a lot of myself in you, you loved trucks just like me.”
Andrew Nasser said Mr Townsend was a “humble, honest, good hearted man” who would be missed by many.
Another friend, Bekkah Bee, said she wished it weren’t true.
“R.I.P Kyle Andrew Townsend,” she said.
“You only Snapchat(ted) me to say you had to service a truck within an hour of your horrific accident,” Ms Bee said.
“I seen the helicopter coming to you and had no idea (sic). You’ll forever be my best friend ... I’m shattered for you that you’ll miss the life you built up through hard work, sacrificing and dedication.”
WorkSafe is investigating and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
The death brings the workplace fatality toll to 30 for 2022, four fewer than at the same time last year.
There were 66 Victorians who lost their lives in 2021.
