A speedster with a self-proclaimed “pretty chequered” driving history has been warned his next court appearance will land him in jail.
Michael Robinson fronted Werribee Magistrates’ Court this week after he was caught driving unlicensed and more than 40km/h over the speed limit in Laverton North last August.

The court heard the 39-year-old had been stopped in front of a police car at the intersection of Geelong and Little Boundary roads before speeding off and “fishtailing” out of control when the light went green.
He sped to 110km/h in the 70km/h zone, braking suddenly when he approached a roundabout.
The court heard Robinson had lost his licence for a string of earlier offences, including three drink-driving charges in two years and several car crashes.
“I understand my history is pretty chequered,” he said.
Magistrate Richard Pithouse said it was “painfully obvious” Robinson should not be allowed behind the wheel in the near future.
“(Your history is) not chequered, it’s extensive — in the 2000s you’ve run amok,” he said.
“It seems over-the-top to put you in jail for this but … you’re skating on thin ice.”
Robinson said he couldn’t do community work due to an earlier crash which left him with 32 broken bones and injuries to his liver, spleen and bowel.
He had been cycling when a driver flung open the car door, sending him flying through the air, the court heard.
Mr Pithouse convicted Robinson, cancelled his licence for 18 months, fined him $2000 and served him with a stern warning.
“You know how you got smashed up on your bike? Can you imagine when you were going through that roundabout … if a bike had been coming through there?,” he said.
“You wouldn’t be here today, you’d be up on a culpable driving causing death charge in the County Court looking at a potential seven years (behind bars), particularly with your record.
“Don’t drive for the next 18 months because with your priors, if you came back before me you’d be looking at three months (in jail) to start with.”
