A warehouse supervisor who took his eyes off the road “for a second” before causing another car to spin out putting its driver in hospital has previously been busted for careless driving, a court heard.

Jordan Ian Way, 27 pleaded guilty to careless driving in Sunshine Magistrates’ Court earlier this month after he crashed into another vehicle at Diggers Rest last year.

The court heard on the evening of October 17, Way was driving a Holden Colorado on Diggers Rest-Coimadai Rd when he took his eyes off the road and collided with the back of a car.

Both cars spun out before coming to a stop but the female driver of Mazda 2 recieved a head wound and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for treatment.

The 27-year-old’s lawyer told Magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg that Way only took his eyes off the road “for a split second” and took full responsibility for the crash.

But Mr Rozencwajg noted from photos of the crash tendered to the court that both vehicles “looked like write offs” and concluded it was “more than a momentary” glance.

He said the offending was “truly careless in every sense of the word” and noted he was previously fined $1000 for the same charge.

The court heard that Way worked as a warehouse supervisor and was worried about being off the road because public transport to Diggers Rest was “unreliable”.

The magistrate said he was still a young man and would show moderation by not making any further orders on his licence.

Way was convicted and fined $1500.
