A speedster from Melbourne’s west, who was caught driving 70km/h over the speed limit while on parole, has been jailed for 14 days.

Hani Mohammad, 26, was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to doing 150km/h in an 80 zone earlier this year, and breaching parole.

Mohammad was intercepted while riding his motorcycle near Melbourne’s CBD in January 2023.

Mohammed had been out on parole since August 2022, which was then revoked after his motorbike stunt.

The court heard Mohammad had picked up his first job as a part-time barber while on parole and was getting his life on track, which included saving enough money to purchase his own motorbike.

He appeared at Werribee Magistrate’s Court on Thursday via video link from Barwon Prison.

Mohammed pleaded guilty to charges at the first mention and it was heard while he knew he was speeding at the time he was unaware of by how much.

Magistrate Amina Bhai said she took the early plea of guilty into account when sentencing but “did not accept that (he) didn’t appreciate the extent of how much he was speeding”.

His licence has also been disqualified for 12 months.
