Four people have been forced to flee after a fire took hold of their Sydenham home.

Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters were called to the Lady Rose Court property just after 11am on Monday following reports of a house fire.

Crews arrived on scene within seven minutes to find the brick home ablaze.

More than 25 firefighters worked to contain the flames and brought the fire under control just before noon.

Firefighters remain on scene to ensure the fire has been completely put out.

Investigators are also working to find the cause of the blaze.

A community advice warning has been issued to nearby residents and businesses to open their windows and doors to ventilate their properties if affected by smoke.
