Champion boxer Mark Quon to fight allegations of assaulting teenager at petrol station

A champion boxer, who also owns a boxing gym, is gearing up to fight allegations he repeatedly punched a teenager in the face at a suburban petrol station.

An amateur boxing champion will contest allegations he repeatedly punched a 15-year-old in the face after he became involved in an incident with his wife at a suburban petrol station.

Deer Park man Mark Quon, 46, fronted Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court heard the alleged incident occurred when Quon drove to a United petrol station in a white Mercedes with his wife just after 8am in June 2023.

Quon’s wife allegedly became involved in a scuffle while she was parked in the Mercedes at the fuel pump.

The court heard there was spitting and someone was called a “f---ing slut”.

The teenager and a witness left their car as the incident escalated, the court heard.

When Quon saw what was happening, he allegedly pushed the witness back and punched the 15-year-old in the chin as he attempted to intervene.

Police will allege Quon then repeatedly punched the teenager, hitting him three additional times.

In court, Quon’s defence lawyer Jason Milides said his client was a father who also worked as a plumber.

The court heard Quon had opened his own boxing gym, which was his “passion project” and he used the gym to coach young boys and men.

Magistrate Meaghan Keogh said the allegations were serious.

“You cannot be attending a petrol station at 8.30 in the morning and all of a sudden people are (allegedly) being punched,” she said.

The matter was adjourned for a contested hearing.
