Two youths have been arrested after a gun scare forced the closure of a popular aquatic centre in Melbourne’s west.

Staff, gym and pool users were forced to evacuate AquaPulse in Hoppers Crossing about 6.50pm Wednesday after unconfirmed reports of a man seen with an object thought to be a firearm.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers arrived and detained a number of people who were searched.

No firearm was found but two youths were arrested, one for possessing a knife and another wanted in relation to unrelated incident.

They are helping police with their inquires.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday night, operator WynActive posted that AquaPulse would be closed for the remainder of the night.

“We will be resuming our standard operating hours as of tomorrow Thursday 25 January.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
