These are the ones to look out for.

As the sun sets over Wyndham the city comes to life as the annual LIT festival takes centre from Friday, March 17.

The LIT festival will light up Melbourne’s west next weekend with a series of immersive light shows from Wyndham Park, including laser shows every half-hour and presentations produced by award-winning Australian arts group The Indirect Object.

The event will be on every night from March 17 to 26, 8pm-11pm.

Volunteer festival

The people who make the west tick will be out in force at the Volunteer Expo on Saturday, March 18.

Many local community groups hope to use the day to recruit the next generation of volunteers passionate about their patch.

Wyndham Mayor and long-time volunteer Susan McIntyre said the expo gives like-minded people the chance to connect.

“Volunteering has many benefits and is a great way to get involved in the local community, build social connections, make a difference, learn new skills and can be a pathway to employment,” Cr McIntyre said.

“Volunteering brings people together; it builds communities and creates a betters society for everyone.”

The expo will be held at the Encore Events Centre in Hoppers Crossing from 10am to 2pm.

Harmony Day

The west’s rich cultural diversity will also be celebrated next Saturday as part of the annual Wyndham Harmony Day event.

Wyndham boasts the most multicultural suburbs in Australia, with Point Cook, Tarneit and Werribee making up the top three culturally diverse areas with more than 80 nationalities represented.

This year’s theme is Everyone Belongs and will be hosted by Melbourne’s up and coming multicultural leaders.

A variety of cultural performances headline the event, which will be held at the Youth Resource Centre in Hoppers Crossing.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra comes to Werribee

For classical music buffs this one is for you.

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, a Russian Christmas in Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and Bizet’s Carmen Suite and Ravel’s Bolero at the Wyndham Cultural Centre in Werribee on Wednesday, March 15.

Thee performance will be lead by First Nations conductor Aaron Wyatt, the first Indigenous Australian to conduct a state symphony orchestra in concert.
