Werribee will become the latest suburb in Wyndham to have a new community hub, with a $13.m facility to be built by mid-2024.
The Black Forest Road South Community Centre (official name yet to be announced) will feature three kindergarten rooms, maternal and child health suites, multipurpose and meeting rooms, kitchens and office spaces.
Construction will begin in the next few months.
Chaffey Ward councillor Josh Gillian said the facility would help meet the area’s needs as the population increased.
“Community centres are essential places of connection and support for families,” Cr Gilligan said.
“The Black Forest Road South Community Centre will provide the Werribee community with a safe, warm and enticing place where people of all ages and backgrounds can gather, connect and engage.
“As Wyndham’s population increases, the demand for early education services increases – and the Black Forest Road South Community Centre will help meet this demand in this growing pocket of Werribee West.”
The kindergarten spaces will be used by One Tree Community Services.
This new Werribee precinct is the latest multipurpose hub planned in the city of Wyndham, with a similar space set to be completed in Manor Lakes this year.
The $8.2m Birnibal Family Centre will also host the KU Children’s Services kindergarten, which will create a pathway into the newly built Ngarri Primary School.
Since officially becoming a suburb in 2016, Manor Lakes has a population of more than 12,000 people, with this tipped to surpass 18,000 by 2026.
Moreover, the city of Wyndham is expected to nearly double in population and become home to more than 500,000 residents by 2041.
