Port Fairy forfeit against Koroit in seniors and reserves

Port Fairy Football Netball Club has forfeited its seniors and reserves matches against Koroit in the Hampden Football League. Find out why.

A lack of players has forced Port Fairy to forfeit both their seniors and reserves for this weekend’s clash against Koroit in the Hampden Football League.

The club sent a message to their players and supporters this afternoon to let them know of the decision.

A combination of injuries and illness over the past few weeks has left the club without a sufficient squad to be selected in those two grades.

It has been a season of struggle for the team with zero wins in 15 senior matches.

More than half of those losses have been by more than 100 points.

The seniors are on a 23-game losing streak, stretching back to last season.

The decision does not impact the under-18.5 team, who will still be playing.

“Season 2022 has not been without its difficulties for the senior football squad as many players have faced illness and major injuries throughout the year, rendering them unavailable for weekly selection,” a statement from the club said.

“The coaches and selection committee were faced (this week) with numbers that were deemed unviable to ensure player welfare and safety.

“Our current senior squad player list not available for selection this week is 64%.

“The decision has therefore been made to forfeit the game and to ensure our under-18.5 group play within their own age group.”

The club said the forfeit will have no impact on their 2023 plans and Port Fairy is planning on playing next year.

But nothing has been said by the club in relation to fielding sides for their final two matches of the season against Warrnambool and Hamilton respectively.
